Gerdes Rites Are Held Here Sunday

Funeral services for Frank John Gerdes, 67, resident of Luverne since last October, were held at the Smith Funeral home here and at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran church in Brewster Sunday. Pastor Martin Hauser of Luverne officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were six nephews, Harvey Gerdes, Le Roy Besser, Warren Wilson, Donald Bayerkohler, Raymond Aherns and Mervin Bayerkohler.

Mr. Gerdes died at his home here on North Cedar street at 3:45 a.m. Thursday. He had been in failing health for some time, but had been bedridden only a week.

Born in Livingston county, Ill., January 31, 1880, Mr. Gerdes lived there until he was 21 years of age, then came with his parents to Minnesota, settling on a farm near Brewster. He lived there 33 years, moving to Isle, where he resided 10 years, and then to Hoffman, Minn. where he lived four years before coming to Luverne last fall. He was married at Brewster to Alvina Bayerkohler on January 28, 1925, and in April of the following year, he was confirmed by Rev. H. Kreiger. He was engaged in farming most of his life. While at Isle, Minn. he served two terms on the town board.

Surviving him are his wife, two children, Velma Gerdes, St. Paul, and Lloyd Gerdes, Hoffman, Minn., three brothers, Hie Gerdes, Brewster, John Gerdes, Melrose, and George Gerdes of Burtrum, Minn., and two sisters, Mrs. W.J. Gebe, Minneapolis, and Mrs. Fred Besser, Luverne.

Gerdes, Frank.--We wish to express our sincere thanks and appreciation to our many kind friends and neighbors for the acts of sympathy shown us during the illness and death of our dear husband, father and brother. We especially thank Rev. Hauser, the choir, organist, pallbearers, the ladies who served the dinner, Dr. Sherman, Mrs. O.I. Thompson, those who furnished cars and for the beautiful floral offerings.
