Obituary of John Weidert (d. 6 April 1940)

DEATH COMES TO TOWNSHIP OFFICER

John Weidert of Westside Served continuously on Town Board for 40 years

ADRIAN

Funeral rites for John Weidert, who died at his home in Olney Saturday morning, will be conducted by the Rev. A. M. Gmeinder in St. Adrian's church at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning. Death resulted from infirmities of advanced age. Since the latter part of December he had been confined to his home by his final illness.

Mr. Weidert was a native of Luxemburg. He was born September 12, 1865, and emigrated to America at the age of 20, arriving at Alton, Ia., in January 1886. From Alton he came to Nobles county three years later. He was first located on a farm in Little Rock township. Next he went to Lismore and in October 1899 he moved on the farm where he spent the rest of his life.

Mr. Weidert was a member of the Olney town board continuously for 40 years, a record which has been equalled in very few if any instances in Minnesota. During a considerable part of that period he was chairman of the board. He tendered his resignation the last year when his health failed and he became unable to continue his official services.

Starting as a young man without means, Mr. Weidert attained to ownership of a half section of land in Westside, his quarter section home place and other extensive property holdings. One of his first acts when his finances permitted, after his arrival in this country, was to bring his parents to America to live.

Mr. Weidert was married in Adrian, January 21, 1895, to Anna Dorn, daughter of John Dorn of Little Rock township. She survives him with 8 of their 10 children. These are John and Nicholas at home; Ella (Mrs. Joseph Kellen), Olney; Elizabeth (Mrs. Anton Lonnerman) and Peter, Westside; Mary (Mrs. Hubert Temme), Petersburg, Neb.; Catherine, who makes her home with her sister, Mrs. Lonnerman; Ann at home. Four surviving sisters of Mr. Weidert are Mrs. Peter Von Bank, Adrian; Mrs. Mary Hansen, Glenburn, N.D., Mrs. Ben C. Fink, St. Kilian; Mrs. Frank Banck, Westside.

Mr. Weidert was a long time member of St. Adrian's Catholic Church.
