Biographies and Photos of Carroll County Ancestor

Carrollton County Courthouse and Confederate Monument

Earlier in 2006, the large cedar in the NW corner of the courthouse yard at Carrollton, Miss., was cut, clearing the view of the Confederate Monument and of the courthouse. The courthouse was built in 1876 to replace one built on the same site in 1841. This is the 3rd Carrollton Courthouse. According to the Carroll County Supervisors Minute Book A, page 640, it's recorded that July 12, 1876, Supervisors authorized the final payment of $1,000 to the contractors for this courthouse (Packer and A. Larmour) at that time. WHEN the contract was initially made, Packer and Larmour had UNTIL Jan. 1, 1877 to complete the job -- but they finished earlier.
