CARROLLTON - Services for James Lonnie "Dick" Bowers, 73, of Carrollton, who died of a heart attack Thursday, Aug. 16, 2001, at his home, will be at 2 p.m. today at Williams & Lord Funeral Home in Greenwood.
Mr. Bowers was born in Carroll County and lived there most of his life except for 15 years in West Point. In West Point, he was an independent truck driver and owned a service station. He served in the U.S. Army for 20 years and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church in Carroll County.
He was preceded in death by a son, Lonnie Edward Bowers.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Warner Bowers of Carrollton; three daughters, Judy B. Henley of San Angelo, Texas, Susan B. Turner of Lebanon, Mo., and Mary B. Abrams of Columbus; one son, James W. Bowers of Carrollton; two brothers, Rube Williamson of Carrollton and Tommy Bowers of Grenada; two sisters, Melba Louise Elmore of West Point and Annie Myrtle Lott of Vicksburg; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
The Rev. Joseph Sansing will officiate at the services. Pallbearers will be Scott Henley, John Henley, Donald Henley, Tommy Earl Bowers, James Rube Bowers, Denver Lee Bowers and Robert Guest.
Burial, with military rites, will be in Longview Cemetery in Carroll County.
