I am the daughter of Rufus Eugene Cox a native of Carroll County his entire life. He was the son of Samuel Wesley Cox, my grandfather. In my grandfather's obituary, my father's name was not included because of damage to the article. It should say Frank Hunter of Black Hawk, Rufus Eugene of Vaiden and Howard of Black Hawk.
My father was in World War I and was enlisted or inducted on April 16, 1917 at Memphis, Tn. He was born on Feb. 20, 1894. He was in the battle of Argonne Forest west of Merse from Sept. 25, 1918 to Oct. 5, 1918. In this battle there were over 3000 American soldiers and only about 300 came out alive. My father and his first cousin, a Kenneth Ross of Vaiden were among the survivors. Quite a miracle!
My fathers obituary should read:
My Cox died May 1, 1974 in Winona Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ada Lee Brisendine Cox. Survived by his wife Gladys Shelton Cox. He is also survived by his children, Kathleen Caito of Columbus, Ohio, James Kittrell of Jackson Ms., Roscoe Lamar of Winona, Ms., Virginia of Port Neches, Texas, Eloise Ellis of Jackson, Ms., Ruth Brunton of Columbus, Ohio and Roy Eugene of Port Neches, Texas.
If you update the military records and the Obituaries, I would appreciate it.
Thank you,
Ruth Cox Brunton Rossi
