Dr. Charles
Caleb Mattox
Query posted March 31, 2005
I am trying to do family research on Dr. Charles Caleb Mattox and family. I have information on where most of the family is buried that would be New Salem Cemetery in Carroll County.
I am hoping to get some type of photographs of the family as well as more information on Dr. Mattox's daughter Mary Virginia Mattox also known as (Mamie) she would be my great-grandmother. She married a man named George C. Stubblefield and she was born in 1873 and died 1952 in Greenwood Ms. I would like to get a copy of their marriage licenses if possible.
They owned a merchant store in Avalon, Ms. and was believed that her dad practiced medicine upstairs of that store. She was good friends with a family last name Stinson, who had a daughter Rebecca that died in a car wreck. There was suppose to have been an article in the newspaper about their store being robbed and both her and George was beaten up pretty bad.
Any information I can get would be most helpful to me. I believe there may be information at the library there in Carroll Ms.
Thanks
Carolyn Leavell
