OAKWOOD CEMETERY

Location:  From intersection of US Hwy 82 and MS Hwy 17, go north on MS Hwy 17 to the court house square.  Turn right at the Merrill Museum and go to Pelham Street.  Turn right on Pelham Street and go down hill to gravel road to the right.  Turn on gravel road and go up hill.  Colored cemetery will be on the right.  Cross ditch, on the left, on wooden walkway bridge and go up steep hill to cemetery.

Transcribed by Dudley Rinicker, October 25, 2004.  Oakwood Cemetery is in very poor condition. Many sunken graves, without markers, many mounded brick graves without markers. There is no travelable road to the cemetery. There was a storm a couple of years ago that left downed trees and limbs all over the cemetery. I recorded all the markers I could find. There were 10 markers, in the Carroll County Cemetery Book, that I didn't find, but I found 3 markers that were not recorded there.
