submitted March 24, 2004.  (Will of A. Adelaide Geren--the will of a daughter of Abraham Geren and, probably, Sarah Ann (Geren) Lucas.)

WILL OF A. Adelaide Geren

State of Mississippi  )

Carroll County          )

            I, A. Adelaide Geren, being of Sound Mind and unimpaired judgment do make this my last will + testament

            Viz:  I will and bequeath to my father Abram Geren, and my mother Sarah Ann Geren, jointly during their lifetimes, all of the negroes of which I am possessed, except the girl Veney,

            Viz:  Nancy, Mary Jane + Nick and the one half interest which I own in the man Fred (the other half belonging to my Father) and after the death of my Father + Mother, it is my will that my Sister, Sarah Ann McLemore, and her children shall inherit the said negroes, so bequeathed to my Father + Mother forever.  She, my Said Sister, paying to my brothers Wm. P. Tyson and Aaron L. Tyson, each the sum of  five hundred dollars.

            To my sister Mary A. Geren, I give + bequeath the girl Veney, during her lifetime, and at her death to my Sister Sarah A. McLemore.  It is further my will that at the death of my Sister Sarah A. McLemore all the property thus willed to her may be equally divided among her children.

  To the Mississippi Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church South, I bequeath my piano or its value in money, to aid in the education of poor orphan children.  And having full confidence in my Brother in Law, John D. McLemore, I do appoint him executor of this my last will and testament.

Done this 30th day of July, 1854

  A. A. Geren Signed + Published the instrument hereto attached as her last will + testament in my presence.  I subscribed the same as a witness, with her approbation and in her presence.  She was at the time of Sound + disposing mind + memory.  She was aged about 22 years at the time of its date, and was unmarried.
