DODGE

A great portion of the Dodge information is resourced in Origins of North Dakota Place Names by Mary Ann Barnes Williams.

Initially a Northern Pacific Railroad station in 1914 located in Section 10, Township 144, Range 91. Railroad official Lee C. Pettibone named it for George W. Dodge, a banker from Anoka, Minnesota who owned the townsite. Already a land owner in Grand Forks County he purchased the Dunn County land about 1913 when he heard the railroad was being platted further west. Local residents were overruled as they suggested Loring or Mittelstedt as the name. The post office was established 21 December 1915 with Hans A. Burgess as Postmaster. The elevation is 2004, the Zip Code is 58625, platted in 1915, incorporated in 1917, reached a peak population of 251 in 1950.
