I am looking for information on the family of John Adam WISE. I located him (with family) in the Dakota Census 1885. He came from Pa. I am trying to find out more about the move that brought him there (to Steele). I noticed that many of the names that are surnames that married into the family are there also and that a large percent of those came from Pa. One story is that the family came with Steele - a friend from army days. Some of the family members returned to Pa, Md and Va. Others remain in ND (one is 99 this year). Several of us are trying to piece the story together. Thank you for any help. Terry Wise Vanderslice jtvandersl@aol.com

Laurie K. Houle Thu 16 May 2002

Looking for information on Mary O Lindblad who owned a boarding house in Kidder County, Steele Township. The 1920 census shows she was the mother of Myrtle age 19, Alice age 17, Effie age 15, Fred age 12, and Ray age 10. The census shows that Mary was 75 which would make it impossible for Mary to be the mother of these children. Effie was my grandmother, she remembers her mother as being very old. We think her real mother died and the that Mary O Linblad was her grandmother. The childrens father was John Anderson born in Sweden, changed his name to Lindblad once he came to America. His wife we thought was Marie Oberg however, that may not be true. They left their older children in Sweden not sure how many there were. We know there was a set of twins. John worked for the railroad we think the Northern Pacific. Effie (married Hamilton Bird), Ray, and Fred later came to Minnesota. Alice went to Idaho. This family had a very hard life, if anyone remembers or has any information please contact myself. Thanks in advance Laurie Houle

I am seeking information about my grandfather, Albert Etten, who farmed a few miles north of Dawson, Kidder County. He, also, owned the Red Owl Store in Dawson. The story is that he, also, established a dance pavilion at Lake Isabel where Lawrence Welk played in the early 20's. He , reportedly, opened his large barn to barn dances back then, as well. I am , especially, interested in anecdotes that anyone might have heard about this staunch, successful, German who brought his family and wife ,Catherine Wegener-Etten, from Volo, Illinois ,in 1911. I can be reached at mjohnson@i29.net. Thank you.

EBB's birthday could be anywhere between 1875 and 1900. I looked at the 1930 census for Tuttle city and Tuttle Township. There was a Charles Stewart. I don't know if he was related. They had 3 more children born there at Wapheton, Simon Mathias, Anna Sophia and Samuel Jenson. Would appreciate any information you have. Thanks. Norma halnor@sasktel.net
