John Burgess
John and Charlotte Flatt Burgess were married on 9 December 1890 in Fargo. They moved to McHenry County in 1903 with their children, Vera Pearl, John Kent, and Florence, homesteading in Sections 14 and 23 in Township 154, Range 80. John was born on 19 Jun 1867 in Canada and died 29 March 1936 in a Minot hospital. Charlotte was also born in Canada on 1 April 1869. She died on 6 December 1969 here in McHenry County.
Vera Pearl was born 9 September 1892 in Ransom County and died on 13 December 1975 in Ward County. She went by Pearl and was never married and lived on the family farm most of her life.
John Kent was born 14 June 1894 in Sheldon, Ransom County and died 9 December 1969 in McHenry County having never married and living most of this life on the family farm.
Florence moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1925 to teach school. She married Edward Schwab who died before their son was born in 1927 believed to be while being operated on in Minnesota. After his death, Florence moved back to Velva to the farm where their son was born on 19 June 1927. They moved to Velva in 1933 and started a movie theater until 1953. Florence died on 3 January 1965 in Ward County.
Fred "Speed" married Twilla Smebak of Minot on 2 July 1960. They had two sons; John born 16 September 1962 and Bruce 10 September 1964. Fred died on 6 August 2012 and Twilla on 29 November 2022.

Charlotte is the daughter of Jonathan (1823 England-1910 North Dakota) and Elizabeth Stone (1828 England-1901 Canada) Flatt; he the son of James and Mary Ann Flatt. Charlotte is an aunt to James Wesley Flatt of Velva.
