James Wesley Flatt
James Wesley FLATT and his family were residents of McHenry County. He was born on 27 January 1874 in Orangeville, Dufferin County, Ontario, Canada. He died on 3 December 1943 in Ward County, North Dakota and buried at the Velva Cemetery. At the time of his death his residence was in McHenry County.
James Wesley FLATT and Lydia Ann Edwards were married on 28 December 1904 in Smiths Falls, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. The Canadian Marriage Registration recorded his residence in Velva, North Dakota as a Methodist and a farmer.
In 1910 he is living on a farm in North Prairie, McHenry County, North Dakota with his wife and two children. Also living on the farm is his brother Lawrence and his wife Ellen May Victoria (Nellie). Landowner records indicate he owns the Northwest Quarter of Section 26 in North Prairie Township, Township 154, Range 80.
The dates on James are difficult to understand with his immigrating in 1893, his marriage in 1904, his wife immigrating in 1905 (maybe as the date is not clear), and his son's birth and immigration in 1906 in Canada. Perhaps he went back to Canada in 1904, married, went back to North Dakota, and then his wife followed after his son's birth.
Lydia died on 8 January 1912 and is buried at Velva Cemetery.
James Wesley FLATT and Mrs. Eva Crowell were married on 15 July 1914 in Velva.
In the 1915 North Dakota Census he is living with his two children William and Sylvia and his new wife, Eva.
James and Eva were divorced before 1920. No other information could be found on Mrs. Eva CROWELL. In 1920 James is living with his daughter on the Christine Swedland farm in Velva as a hired man. His 14 year old son, William, is boarded and working on the Shipman farm in Velva.
In 1930 he is living in Brillian, Ward County as a boarder on the Louie Larson farm.
In 1940 he resides in the Russell Hotel [Russell House - burned in 1945] in Velva.
James Wesley Flatt was the son of Alfred and Jane McCutcheon Flatt of Canada; he the son of Jonathon and Elizabeth Stone Flatt; he the son of James and Mary Ann Unknown Flatt.
James is the nephew of Charlotte Matilda Flatt Burgess wife of John Burgess of Velva.
