My father was Otto Corbin who owned Corby's in Bottineau and Gene was my Grandfather. I have been looking for information about my Grandfather for many years. I believe there was a newspaper in Norma in 1914, and it may have carried the story of the house fire. My Grandfather may also be buried around Norma. I expect the grave would be unmarked or the marker might be hard to read at this point. I believe his date of death was May 15, 1914, but I could be wrong about the month and day. BRUUN, Carl Marinus
Time: 1873 - 1902
Place: Mohall, Renville, ND
Searching for descendants/ancestors of Carl MarinusBRUUN/BRAUN/BROWN, my great grandfather, b. August 16, 1873, Denmark. Does anyone know what happened to the BRAUN family after Carl's death in 1925? He and Elmer are the only ones buried in the family plot in Lansford Cemetery.
Who do I contact to inquire on the records of the Bethesda Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church? Where is/was the church located? Do you know someone who would be interested in selling me a copy of the Renville County Historical Book 1901-1976?
INFORMATION I KNOW: His parents/family were: Robert Peter and Caroline BRUUN. Pictures of Robert/Caroline BRUUN taken in Odense, Denmark in 1909. Also several pictures of Carl, brother S. Peter and wife Hanne, sister Anna (ZILMER/ZELMER), and a picture labeled my father, Carl Marinus BRUUN, my step-mother Christiana and half-brothers Anton and Alvin, ages abt 1 & 3.
Carl Bruun immigrated to the U.S. in June 1901 through the port of New York City from Denmark. I believe they lived in the Mohall or Lansford, ND and/or McKinney or Hamerly Townships. The "Renville County History: 1901-1976" lists: Mr. and Mrs. Carl BRAUN as charter members of Bethesda Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church (which was chartered in 1902/1903); and Carl Marinus BRUUN listed as a first land owner in McKinney, Renville County TWP 161-86. SW 1/4 of (Sec. 12). The 1920 Census Hamerly Township, Renville Co., ND lists the family of Carl and Christiana BRUUN as: BRUUN, Carl M. : Head of household; he owned his home and it was mortgaged. He is married, white, age 46, immigrated to US in 1901; filed first papers 1902, Minot, Ward Co., USA, naturalized citizen in 1908, born in Denmark as were his parents, could speak English, and was a farmer. BRUUN, Christiana married to Carl M., white, age 35, immigrated to US in 1901, naturalized 1908, could read and write, born in Denmark as were her parents, homemaker. Their childen: BRUUN, Anton: son, age 16, worked on his father's farm; BRUUN, Alvin: son, age 14, worked on his father's farm; BRUUN, Lester: son, age 12; BRUUN, Emma: daughter, age 9; BRUUN, Harry: son, age 7; BRUUN, Elmer: son, age 5; BRUUN, David: son, age 1 1/12.
Elmer P. BRAUN, son of Carl and Christiana BRAUN was born July 28, 1914, and died March 3, 1920, of pneumonia following the flu. He is buried in Lansford Cemetery, Bottineau Co., ND.
Carl M. BRAUN died at 51; stomach cancer; Minot, ND hospital July 3, 1925; prominent area farmer. He is buried in Lansford Cemetery, Bottineau Co., ND in a family plot with his son Elmer P. BRAUN. Large family stone BRAUN and two smaller stones of Carl Braun and Elmer Braun.
Carl Braun's obituary said he was survived by his wife and 8 children which means there was probably another child born after 1920 and before Carl Braun's death in 1925.
My grandmother Chjoldvor BRUUN/BROWN was born to Carl Marinus BRUUN and Martha BERNTSEN in September 26, 1896, in Faxse hade plads, Shjelland, Denmark. My great grandparents, Carl and Martha were never married. My grandmother, Chjoldvor BRUUN, came to the U.S. abt. 1916 to join her father and his family in North Dakota. She found them and later met my grandfather, John Alexander WOODS there. They married December 1917 in Cambridge, Story Co., IA, USA. None of my grandmother's children from her marriage to John Woods (5) ever met their grandfather or his children (their aunts and uncles). There are still two surviving children to Chjoldvor BRUUN/BROWN and John WOODS. Would like to make contact with any descendants of Carl Marinus BRUUN or information on ancestors -- please. Special note should be made that the BRUUN/BRAUN and BROWN names were all used by this family after immigrating to the U.S. My father, Robert Brown WOODS, was named for his great grandfather, Robert Peter BRUUN.

Time: 1904 - 1904
Place: 158 N 082 W 035 (Southern Renville/Northern Ward Counties)
I am trying to find the records to follow the trail of my great great grandmother -- Julia Brennan. She was originally from Scriba, NY. She married Joseph Fenton Brennan of Auburn NY. They had 6 or 7 children before his death in 1894. John L. Brennan, Martin P. Brennan, Joseph P. Brennan, Ruth Brennan, and a couple other children whose names I cannot remember At some point after my G.G. Grandfather's untimely death she came to Dakota territory with her children. I have a picture of John in the Badlands of ND located near Marmarth, ND. The picture is dated 1904; however, John did not patent any settler lands in Marmarth until 1920. Apparently at that time he was married to an Anna Wise Brennan. There are some inconsistensies, however. The 1904 picture is of a 35-45 year old man. In 1904, John would have only been 17 or 18. Maybe with your help I can figure out if the Julia A. Brennan is my G.G. Grandmother, and how the John and Anna Brennan with adjoining patents in Ward and Renville County are related to me and my family.

Michael and Ellen then moved to Chester MT where they Homesteaded June 15, 1910. In Nov. 1910 he filed for a leave of absence on the Homestead. His request stated that he would return to Tolley, ND. The leave was granted from Nov.1, 1910 thru April 1, 1911. From his land Patent file it was reported that Michael died April 28, 1911, in Chester. Baetzer, Julius and Kate
Time: 1900 - 1951
Place: Brandon Township, Mohall, ND
Julius homesteaded in Mohall around 1900 with his first wife, Minnie (Bethke) Baetzer. Around 1922 his wife died in Eau Claire, WI and Julius disappeared from the family tree. I have no other description of him to help me in my search. I do know that at some time after 1922 Julius remarried a woman by the name of Kate who was still living in the Mohall area until 1951. Julius died Feb. 20, 1950 in Jamestown, ND where he is buried. Any information to help me locate his second wife or children from his first marriage would be greatly appreciated. I'm hoping to contact the local library to see if an obituary was written up on him at the time of his death. Thank you for your interest in my query.

Walstad/Walstead, John F.
Time: 1900 -
Place: Mohall, ND
Searching desperately for any info on my g-gfather John Walstad who moved to Mohall about 1900-1904. I found the following info on the Renfield County website and would like to find out if either of these buildings still stand, or if anyone may have any old photos or info..." George R. Whitford of Mohall, a general merchant built a store which would later serve as a courthouse for about 27 years. Construction started July 28th, 1904 with Edwin B. Loucks as architect and John Walstead as contractor. August 4th, 1910 a contract was awarded to John F. Walstead to repair the old Whitford building in Mohall, and he completely remodeled the building. He put in all necessary offices so it could be used as a temporary courthouse. My g-gfather was related to M. O. (Martin Oland?) Hall who was the city's founder. My g-grandmother Alida died at 3-40 years old, and is buried somewhere near Mohall, but I have never been able to locate any garavesite or records. A daughter Julia married into the Satran family who were also from the Mohall area. My g-mother Lillian married George Dasher from Glasgow, Montana.

McEwen, John
Time: 1906--1921
Place: Norma, Renville, ND
I am looking for information re: John McEwen who is listed as one of the first settlers of Norma, N.D., according to the Renville County History. From the Census Records I have found that John married an Effie L. ?unknown? who had a daughter, Florence, by a first marriage. In about 1906 John and Effie had a son, Paul and in about 1912 another son John McEwen Jr. John McEwen was the youngest of seven Children of Alexander and Elizabeth (Hibson) McEwen. They were married in Minton, Londonderry, Ireland on February 16, 1854. John and Elizabeth must have come to the U.S. shortly after their marriage, as their first daughter Mary was born December 16, 1855 in Leicester, Livingston Co., NY. Other siblings of John were, William born February 18, 1857 although the date of March 05, 1862 was listed in Alexander’s Civil War pension report. I suppose it is possible that there were two Williams, as there is a childs grave on the family plot, listed as little Willie. Then there is Elizabeth born December 02, 1859, married to Bert Bloodgood; then Ester (Esther) McEwen born December 18, 1861 and apparently never married. Next is Thomas T. McEwen born May 06, 1863; Margaret "Maggie" McEwen born April 01, 1865 and married to Robert MacDowell. Last but not least was John born November 21, 1868.
