COUNTY FORMATION

Burke County was included in Imperial Ward County until its division into the counties of Ward, Renville, Mountrail, and Burke. Burke County was organized as a county July 15, 1910. The county was named for Governor John Burke, under whose administration it was organized. Bowbells has always been the county seat.
