County Seat: Wahpeton

Wahpeton is the Richland county seat. This city is situated on the Bois de Sioux River at its confluence with the Otter Tail River, which forms the Red River of the North. Settled in 1864 by Morgan T. Rich and initially named Richland, it was the second permanent settlement in North Dakota.
