Harry Cray, is securely locked in the county jail at McClusky: an alleged black hand mystery has been solved that the citizens of Denhoff, Sheridan county, have put away their shotguns and weapons of defense and are again sleeping peacefully o' nights.

On March 19 a letter was found lying on a flat-topped rock at the side of a road just outside the town limits of Denhoff. It was addressed to Ed Wahl, cashier of the First State bank of Denhoff and advised him to take $2,500 in currency to a certain place a mile and a half from the town, leave it and go his way. "If you know what is good for you, you better follow these instructions," the letter read.

Investigator Furnished.

Wahl reported to State's Attorney Frank Temple who appealed to Attorney General William Langer for a special investigator. The night following the appearance of the first letter another missive was found stuck to the outer window of a pool hall with chewing gum. This also was addressed to Ed Wahl.

Sheridan County Farmer Succumbs

William Tagatz, who farmed near Denhoff for 10 years, died at his home Saturday morning at 2 o'clock. He had been in ill health for the last two years, following a paralytic stroke in 1929.

At the time of his death Mrs. Tagatz was nursing him. She retired at 12:30 a. m. and awoke at 2:30 to find that her husband had quietly passed away.

Crystal Lke, Marquette county, Wis., was William Tagatz' former home. He was born there in 1861 and was married to Bertha Wahl at Neilsville, Wis., Feb. 23, 1902.

Mr. and Mrs. Tagatz moved to Sheridan county in the fall of 1921, settling on the farm north of Denhoff. They sold their personal property and moved to Montana in 1929 but returned to Denhoff last fall.

Mr. Tagatz left four children. They are: Mrs. Wm. Alms, Denhoff; Mrs. Julius Glaser, Tuttle; and Russell and Louise, both living at home. His mother lives at Berlin, Wis., and he also leaves four brothers, two sisters and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at Denhoff Sunday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. E. E. Eidb of Bowden and Rev. H. A. Lintz of Denhoff. Interment was made in the Denhoff cemetery.
