Robert W. Barnes, 83, residing in Sandusky, passed away Sunday, December 16, 2018 at Parkvue Health Care Center after a brief illness.
Robert was born on March 15, 1935 in Sandusky, OH to the late Max and Esther (Glumm) Barnes.
Robert graduated from Margaretta High School. He was a Veteran of the US Army who proudly served his country from February 1955 to February 1957 with the 276th Artillery Division. He was a union carpenter, becoming a member in 1953 to the Local Union 305, where he held many offices at the local and district council levels. He retired in 1998. Robert was also a member of the Sandusky AMVETS, and the Amherst VFW, Eagles and Elyria Moose.
Born in Sandusky, he was a resident in Amherst for over 40 years, and spent his winters in Winter Haven, FL. Robert enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting and boating. He had a great sense of humor and loved laughing.
Robert is survived by his wife, Jeanne M. (Landoll) Kerber Barnes. He is also survived by his sons, Robert (Kayla) of Locust Grove, GA, Jeff (Sue) of Amherst and James (Rosy) Barnes of Charlotte, NC; daughter, Judi Douglass of Tuppers Plains, OH; four grandchildren; great-grandchildren; step-sons, Jeff (Kathy) and Brad (April) Kerber; two step-grandchildren; brother, John Barnes of Sandusky and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Robert is preceded in death by his first wife, Jeanette (Windau) Barnes in 1998 and his sisters, Nancy Bechtel and Ruth Crawford.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Burial will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Amherst, OH. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
