Lawrence L. Braidech

April 30, 1932 ~ November 17, 2018

Lawrence 'Larry' Braidech, age 86, of Huron, died peacefully on Saturday, November 17, 2018, at his home surrounded by family immediately following the Buckeyes overtime victory.

Larry started his career as a Geologist working for The Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Geological Survey. He loved spending his weekdays on Lake Erie studying erosion and water quality, and was co-author of key, scientific studies on the Great Lakes. He moved on to a career at Union Chain from where he retired.

He graduated from Hastings-on-Hudson High School in New York in 1950, then on to The Ohio State University. His studies were interrupted by the Korean War where he served overseas for three years in the Army Corp of Engineers. He graduated from Officers Candidate School (OCS) and entered the service where he served with distinction as First Lieutenant. He then returned to Oho State where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Geology in 1960. He was an avid Buckeye fan who would often wake up his kids by playing the music of the OSU marching band on game days.

Larry's interests throughout his life were many: An active member of the Huron Lion's Club, Founding member of the Huron Swim Club, an Appointee on the City of Huron Board of Building and Zoning appeals. A lover of music, he sang in the St. Peter church choir for decades. He participated in a bowling league at Riverview, played tennis at Faben's park regularly into his 70's. He also will be remembered as a master wood craftsman whose creations adorn many of his friends' and families' homes.

Larry was born April 30, 1932, in Cleveland, OH to the late Mathew and Stella Braidech. He was preceded in death by his brother Matthew, his brother-in-law Richard Whitely and sister-in-law Helen Whitely. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Eileen (Whitely) Braidech whom he married on July 4, 1959, in Bellevue, OH; his children, Lori (Mark) Wengerd, Kara (Joe) Gillotti, Lisa (Jon) Szekely, Mark (Janet) Braidech; his grandchildren Joey Wengerd, Sam Wengerd, Sarah Gillotti, Rachel Szekely, Nate Szekely, Meghan Szekely, Katherine Braidech, and Jack Braidech; his in-laws Sandra Whitely and Marilyn and Tom Lashuay, nieces Laura and Leslie Braidech, and nephew Michael Whitely. The family would also like to acknowledge the comfort and love provided by long-term caregiver, Debbie Henry, and loving new caregiver, Alexandria.

A Mass celebrating Larry's life will be held on Tuesday, November 20, at 11am at St. Peter Catholic Church where family will be receiving friends immediately following the ceremony. Reverend Jeffrey McBethi will be officiating.
