Donald Evan "Sonny" Davis, 89, of Sandusky, transitioned peacefully to his eternal rest early Saturday morning, December 29, 2018, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. His passing was on his daughters', Brenda, birthday, which the family states, "We truly have a reason to celebrate his resting in his Heavenly Home."
Born in Oak Hill, OH on November 13, 1929, the son of E. Truman & Nellie (Colby) Davis. In 1944 he moved to Sandusky and later graduated from Sandusky High School in 1949. He was drafted in to the U.S. Army in 1951, having served honorably during the Korean Conflict, as a guard at the Nuclear Production Facility, known as the Hanford Site, in Hanford, WA, After coming home, he worked at the Philco Company until going to school to become an electrician and working for Sandusky Foundry & Machine until his retirement in 1992.
Sonny was a member of the Columbus Avenue United Methodist Church. He assured his family that he was ready for his Eternal Home, with his only regret was to leave his family. Over the years, he had been a volunteer fireman for the Perkins Township Fire Department, a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity as an electrician, he was a Little league baseball coach and a member of various service organizations in the local area. He will be remembered by his family as one that was loved by many and how he was a superb "Handy Man," willing to help anyone who was in need of his help.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Peggy J. (Dick) Davis, whom he married on May 3, 1957; his four daughters, Christine (Ken) Sheperd of Berlin Heights, Brenda (Rick) Crawford and Donna (John) Poock, both of Sandusky and Melissa "Missy" (David) Downing of Bellevue; 10 grandchildren, Amy, Matt, John, Crystal, Nicole, Kelly, Kristen, Katie, Lucas and Maycee; 16 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Terry Green and Glenn "Gus" Davis; two brothers, Lowell and Weldon Davis; four sisters, Garnet Allen, Wanda Corvin, Lorraine Gundlach and Mary Harris.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 4, 2019, from 3-6 pm at the David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, and Saturday morning, January 5, 2019, from 10 am until time of the funeral services at 11 am at the Columbus Avenue United Methodist Church, 2401 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Rev. Erin E. Porter officiating, Burial will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, in Huron.
