Donald G. Glass, 85, of Sandusky, passed away on his 85th birthday, February 20, 2019, in Stein Hospice Care Center.
He was born on February 20, 1934 in Sandusky to the late Ernest and Leona (Reuter) Glass. He was a Korean War veteran, serving from 1953-1955, and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant Tank Instructor. He was one of the few “Atomic Veterans,” stationed nearby as atomic bombs were detonated. He was also in the Army Reserves from 1955-1957. Upon returning home, Donald began his career in vending, first driving delivery truck and then working for more than 50 years for vending companies in our area.
Donald was a 60-year Mason, Perseverance Lodge. He enjoyed reading, collecting coins, and feeding his backyard squirrels and birds. He frequented Cheers, Chet & Matt's, and Baci Night Club. He loved to visit Vegas with friends, and he and his beloved companion, Lundi Basford, loved to bet on the horseraces at the track.
Donald is survived by his sons, Chad Lorcher, of Sandusky, and Blake Lorcher, of Atlanta, GA; sister-in-law, Lisa Freis, of Clearwater, FL; dog, Shiloh; and close friends, Carl and Nancy Ruta, Melvin Weltley, Giovanni Esposito, Steve and Kristi LoDico, Tom McGowan, Ken Hand, Sandra Sims, Chet Laser, Chris and Deneen Biechle, and Jim Wing.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his love, Lundi Basford, in 1997; and friend, Chester Yanushewski. Cremation will take place, and Donald and Lundi will be sent off together in a private ceremony. A Celebration of Donald's Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 24 in Baci Night Club, 5909 Milan Rd., Sandusky.
