Vesta Jean Hayes-Guss, 63, of Sandusky, passed away on Tuesday evening, April 30, 2019 in the Richard E. Jacobs Health Center, Avon, after a lengthy illness.
She was born on November 15, 1955 in Amherst to the late Carlie and Vesta (Miller) Hayes. A 1974 graduate of Firelands High School, Vesta earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education in 1978 from the University of Toledo.
Upon graduating, she taught people who were developmentally handicapped. She worked for several Durable Medical Equipment companies and also was in costuming for many years, equipping the Huron Playhouse, the Sandusky State Theater, and local high schools. She absolutely loved her last employment as a pharmacy technician at CVS. The relationships she made were treasured.
Vesta was an involved member of Emmanuel United Church of Christ in Sandusky. She also served on the Merry-Go-Round Museum Board. She loved to sew, travel, especially to Grand Cayman, her cats, and spending time with family.
Vesta is survived by her husband, Christopher Guss, whom she married on Oct. 3, 1998; daughter, Rebecca (James) Hanacek; sister, Carla (Raymond) Galindo; brother, Aaron (Lynn) Hayes; mother-in-law, Bettyann Guss; sisters-in-law, Nanette and Elizabeth Guss; and other loving family members and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Danny Hayes.
Cremation will take place. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 18 in Emmanuel United Church of Christ, 334 Columbus Ave., Sandusky.
