Edward J. Skipka, 88, residing in Sandusky, passed away at home after a brief illness.
Edward was born on January 9, 1931 in Riverhead, NY to the late William J. and Josephine (Germak) Skipka.
Edward never met a stranger, whistling through life with smile and a happy phrase to all. He served in Korea as member of the 1st Marine Regiment - 3rd Battalion. Edward worked as an electrician the majority of his life with much of it spent with General Motors at plants in Parma, Lordstown and Sandusky. He enjoyed anything that involved spending time with his family and friends.
Edward is survived by his significant other, Elise Bahnsen, daughter, Tamara L. (Michael) Zuilhof of Sandusky; son, Michael E. Skipka of Sandusky; Kathy Newman; grandchildren, Dylan Sauer, William Sauer, Edward (Meagan) Skipka and Joshua Skipka; great-grandchildren, Wednesday Sauer, Ciara Morty and Isabella Sauer; sister, Carol Donato of East Quogue, NY, brother Joseph of Remagen, Germany, Timothy (Michelle) Bahnsen and Kimberlee Hahler; grandchildren, Amanda Greene, Adam (Erinn) Greene, Carissa and Nathan; great-grandchildren Jailynn, London, Richelle, Weston, Gabe and numerous nieces and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Edward is preceded in death by his former wife, Janet.
Friends may call on Thursday, January 24, 2019 from 4 pm to 7 pm at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E Perkins Ave, Sandusky. A Memorial Mass will be held on Friday, January 25, 2019 at 10 am at Holy Angel’s Catholic Church, 428 Tiffin Avenue, Sandusky, OH 44870. A private family burial will take place following the Mass.
