Anthony Clark Will 

In the name of god amen. 

I Anthony Clark of the County of Lawrence in the State of Ohio being in ??? state of health of body but of sound mind memory and understanding considering the certainty of death and the uncertainty of ??? thereof and being desirous to settle my worldly affairs and thereby the better prepared to leave this world when it pleas god to call me hence therefore make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say 

First and principally I commit my soul into the hands of Almighty god and my body to the Earth to be decently buried discretion of my executrix herein after named and after my debts and funeral charges be paid. 

I devise bequeath as follows l leave all my personal property to my beloved wife Catherine and lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint my dear wife Catherine Clark to be sole executrix of this my last will and testament revoking and anulling all former wills by me heretofore made ratifying and confirming this and none other to be my last will and testament in testimony whereof I Anthony Clark have to this my will set my hand and seal this 17th day of February 1830.

There is a paper filed with the will that reads the same as the journal entry below: 

Clerk of Court Journals 3 + 4, p. 85, dated Nov. 9, 1836, entry reads:   

The last will + testament of Anthony Clark late of Lawrence County deceased was this day brought into court and was proved by the oaths of Solomon B. Simpson + Anthony Clark one a witness to said will + the other a witness as to the hand writing of Absolam Stephenson the other witness who is dead. whose examination were reduced to writing + filed in court. and it appearing to the satisfaction of the court not the said Anthony Clark, at the time of executing said will was of full age + of sound mind + memory + not under any restraint.  It is ordered that said will + the proof so reduced to writing be recorded. 

Proof was recorded that Anthony Clark did sign on the 17 February 1830, by Solomon B. Simpson. 
 
 

 

Catherine Clark (wife) Will 

The will of Catherine Clark (Anthony’s wife) can not be found on file at the courthouse.  There was one turned in according to the following journal entry: 

Clerk of Court Journals 3 + 4, p 420, dated Aug. 1, 1838 entry reads: 

The last will and testament of Katherine Clark late of the county of Lawrence deceased was this day brought before the court and was proved by the oaths of Solomon B. Simpson and Rolen Brammer subscribing witnesses to said will who were sworn in open court and testified that they are witnesses to said will that the testatrix signed the same as her last will in their presence and that they signed the will at the request of the testatrix and in her presence that said testatrix was of full age sound mind and memory and not under any restraint whatever whereupon the same is ordered to be recorded. whereupon on motion of William Brammer the executor in said will mentioned having entered into bond in the sum of five hundred dollars with Solomon B. Simpson and Rolen Brammer his security to the approval and acceptance of the court here and taken the oath prescribed by the statute is appointed Executor of the last will and testament of said Katharine Clark deceased and letters of testamentary issued to him. 
 

Catharine Clark (daughter) Will 

Catharine Clark's will was dated Sept. 1, 1839 and it was turned in on Sept. 10, 1839 (Clerk of Courts Journal 3 + 4, p. 521).  The will is difficult to read down one side: 

In the name of God amen, I Catharine Clark of Lawrence County State of Ohio being sick and weak in body but of sound and disposing mind and memory and understanding considering the uncertainty of death and the uncertainty of the time ?thereof? and being d??? to settle my worldly affairs and thereby be the better prepared to leave this world when it shall please God to call me home do therefore make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say first and purporsly I commit my soul into the hands of Almighty God and my body to the earth to be desently buried at the discretion of my ??? herein after named and after my debts and funeral charges are paid I devise and bequeath as follows. 

Secondly. I bequeath and devise unto my (?niece or sister?) Catharine Brammer wife of Clark Brammer all my land lying in Lawrence County Ohio on the east side of Indian Guyan being the plantation I now live on and the same ?land? that was deeded to me by John Hannon ?and? a  piece of ?her? part of a lot of land for whence I have a patten being the ?north or south? west quarter of section twelve in township one range sixteen also ??? acres deeded to me by ?Elenander? ??? for the use of her Catharine Brammer and her heirs I bequeath to Catharine Brammer. 

Thirdly I also ??? the aforesaid property ??? that part left me by my mother and ??? bequeath unto my ?niece? all my ??? and moneys and debt due ??  ?? 

Forthly I devise that Anthony Clark my brother ??? one dollar out of that part of my estate left me by my mother. 

Fifthly I devise that all the property and moneys arise therefrom left me by my mother Catharine Clark decd after paying Anthony Clark his part be equally divided between my three sisters Mary Monihan Jane Mann and Elizabeth Brammer. 

Sixthly and lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint John Mann to be my sole executor of this my last will testment revoking and ??ing all former wills by me heretofore made unto ??? and confirming that and ?now? after to be my last will and testament.  

In testamony whereof I Catharine Clark have to this my last will ?? ?? ?? that of paper set my hand and seal this first day of September 1839.
