Lampkin Cemetery
This information recorded on 22 May , 2002 by Kawatha Chandler Koonce and James W. Dierking. Photo courtesy of Kawatha "Kay" Chandler Koonce. Lampkin Cemetery is located west of Vernon, Al. Take highway 18 west for aprox. seven miles to second exit of County Road 34 and .08 miles to Lumpkin ( should be Lampkin) Road and turn left for .02 miles. Cemetery is on the right side of the road. The Land for the Cemetery was donated by the Lampkin family by the early 1860's. Although there are no markers for Lockhart Lampkin , died May 2, 1872, and his wife Sarah Odom Lampkin, who died August 18, 1861, we know that they are buried here. This started as a family cemetery for the Lampkin Family and their descendents. Most of the people buried in this cemetery have connections to the Lampkin Family. You will find the Lampkin Family surname spelled Lampkins as well as Lampkin. From the earliest know ancestor's Bible Pages it is spelled Lampkin. Both spellings are all the same family. You will also, find the Hays Family surname spelled both Hays and Hayes. This again is the same family.
