Census reports have listed him born in Kentucky and also Tennessee in 1812. I know that he was in Alabama by 1837 married to Jane Unknown, possibly Keown the daughter of Thomas Keown. Their oldest son was my great grandfather Robert Dowling Lewis. I believe that John Y. Lewis is the brother of two other Lamar County men, Gideon Lewis born 1819 and Martin M. 1853 to Samuel and Sara Elizabeth Sandlin Loggains. He married Mary
Ann Turman in dec 24 1874 in Lamar co. Their children were ; LOGGAINS/LOGGINS, Marion: Marion Loggains married Jerusha Turman [widow of ? Noe] in Lamar Co AL and had the following children: Monroe, David, Dempsey Julius married Edna Ray Clayton [Clabe], Leroy, Missouri. Marion was the son of Samuel and Sara Elizabeth Sandlin.
