ELISHA T. EDWARDS – and Mary A. Hastings were married in this county September 6,
1855, and they have the following children:  John H., born November 10, 1856, died
November 8, 1857; Thomas C., April 3, 1858, resides at home; Milton D., July 17, 1860,
resides at home; Frank M., October 23, 1863, resides at home; Maudie, April 19, 1866, died
September 1, 1870; Emma D., December 29, 1868, resides at home.  Mr. Edwards was born
in Davidson county, North Carolina, May 1, 1834, and his wife is a native of this county, born
November 4, 1839. Leonard Edwards, the father of Elisha T., was born in Granville county,
North Carolina, December 12, 1799, and died October 4, 1847.  He settled in this county in
1844.  The mother of Mr. Edwards, Polly (Hedgecock) Edwards, was born in Davidson
county, North Carolina, May 16, 1805, and died December 20, 1856.  The father of Mrs.
Edwards, Alfred Hastings, was born in Carter county, Kentucky, in 1810, and is one of the
oldest settlers of this county, and is still residing here at the age of seventy-two years.
He came in 1825.  Malinda (Riggs) Hastings, the mother of Mrs. Edwards, was born in Boyd
county, Kentucky, in 1817, and died in 1873.  Elisha T. Edwards served in the late war in
Company F., 10th Kentucky Cavalry.  He enlisted in 1862 and was discharged as corporal of
his company.  He reenlisted in 1864 in the 173d Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and was
commissioned second lieutenant, and was promoted to first lieutenant November 26, 1864.
He served as such until July 5, 1865, when his regiment was mustered out.  His brother,
Charles S., was a member of Company F., 10th Kentucky Cavalry, in which he served thirteen
months.  He reenlisted in the 173d Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Company A., as first sergeant,
and was promoted to second lieutenant and transferred to Company F, same regiment.  He
was discharged July 5, 1865.  He was also a soldier in the Mexican war, under General
Taylor.  Two of the brothers of Mrs. Edwards served in the war; Thomas Hastings serving
thirteen months in the 10th Kentucky Cavalry, and reenlisting in the 188th Ohio Volunteer
Infantry, in which he served until the close of the war.  He was a prisoner and was paroled.
Samuel K. Hastings was in the 173d Ohio Volunteer Infantry, in which he served to the
close of the war.  Mr. Edwards is a farmer and gardener of Perry township.  His address is
South Point, Lawrence county, Ohio.

WILLIAM ELKINS – is the son of Marvil and Nancy (Sharp) Elkins, who settled in this
county in 1812; the former is deceased, and the latter died October 12, 1866, aged 82
years.  William was born in Lawrence county April 26, 1823, and married in the same county,
September 23, 1863, to Julia A. Brubaker, who is a native of this county, born January 10,
1835.  Her father, Daniel Brubaker, was born July 8, 1791, and died June 24, 1868.  Her
mother, Margaret D. Brubaker, was born September 27, 1803, and died August 31, 1850.
They came to this county in 1819.  The following are the children of Mr. Elkins:  Oscar M.,
born July 17, 1864, is attending school at Valparaiso, Indiana; William E., January 27, 1867,
resides at home; Ella U. W., July 17, 1868, resides at home; Harriet A., February 10, 1871,
died July 15, 1871; Minnie E., July 29, 1872, resides at home.  Mrs. Elkins had three
brothers in the war of 1861, Daniel, Abraham, and David T. Brubaker.  All three enlisted in
1865 in the 188th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and were honorably discharged at the close of
the war.  The maternal grandfather of Mr. Elkins, Richard Sharp, was in the war of 1812.
Perry township is where Mr. Elkins resides, and where he conducts a farm.  His postoffice
address is Sheridan Coal Works, Lawrence county, Ohio.

 MARTIN ELSWICK – is the son of Bradley and Rebecca (Bazell) Elswick who settled in this
county in 1852.  His wife is the mother of four children by her former husband, Thomas
Dyer, named:  John W., born October 1, 1855, died April 12, 1857; Nancy J., August 30,
1857; Elias B., June 7, 1860; Martin T., October 5, 1862.  Mr. Elswick was married to
Maribeh Bazell, who was born in Pike county, Kentucky, of which Mr. Elswick is also a native.
Their children are:  William B., born February 12, 1866; Wiley B., December 21, 1867;
Edward E., May 4, 1871; Frederick L., August 24, 1873; Minnie E., October 19, 1875; George
M., March 9, 1878; Julius A., April 17, 1880.  The parents of Mrs. Elswick are Elias and
Elizabeth (Radcliff) Bazell.  They came to this county in 1851.  Mr. Elswick is a resident of
Lawrence township, and is engaged in farming.  His postoffice address is Rock Camp,
Lawrence county, Ohio.
