Cpl. Woodard Beard entered the service
in 1943.
Was killed 4th April, 1945 in Phillipines.
Cpl. Woodard Beard, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Beard.

Cpl. Woodard L. Beard
Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Beard of Cooper, route 1, have received the following
letter from Captain Walter L. Goodbread, of the 128th Infantry concerning
the death of their son, Cpl. Woodard L. Beard.
Dear Mrs. Beard:
It is with the deepest sympathy that I write to you of your son's death.
Woodward was killed instantly by enemy machine gun fire while taking
part in an attack on Hill 504, near the Villa Verda Trail, April 4, 1945.
I realize no one feels the loss of your son as you do, yet, I want you
to know you have the sympathy of the officers and men of the organization
in your bereavement. Woodward was a brave and loyal soldier. He gained
the respect and admiration of his comrades by his courageous actions
in the face of the enemy. His death was a personal loss to us all.
His funeral was with full military honors, according to the rites of
the church. He was buried in the American Armed Forces Cemetery, No.
1, Santa Barbara, Luzon, Philippine Islands.
