April 2010—Delta County was granted Honorable Mention in March 2010. We appreciate the many efforts by volunteers at TXGenWeb and for the recognition of our peers. Viewers, we plan to make some exciting updates soon. Stay tuned.
March 2010—For those families that migrated to Delta County from Arkansas, the Arkansas Marriage 1837-1957 Index is 92% complete at the LDS FamilySearch pilot site. I found two marriages of known Delta county residents.
July 2009—IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT—Historical Pictures of Delta County - The Delta County Public Library and the Delta County Historical Commission are preparing to publish one or more books of Historical Pictures of Delta County. If you have pictures of schools, community events, churches, church groups, old stores once in the county, etc. please contact me at my Email or Sylvia Wood, P. O. June 2009—Kris Scholberg has been busy transcribing the marriage indexes for 1871-1970. She has transcribed to letter G in the groom index. So far, we have added A, B, and C. Many thanks to Kris for her volunteer efforts.
February 2009—Co-county coordinator, Dee A. Welborn wandered off and became involved in genealogy group called Unclaimed Persons on Facebook, established by Megan Smolenyak Smolenyak. If you have a desire to help families find their lost ones using your genealogy skills, you should drop by and take a gander at Unclaimed Persons. It is a wonderful way to develop skills that will be useful in your own genealogy. Dee is back at Delta County with plans to add some obituaries and stored away items (long forgotten).
In the midst of summer, Delta County was recognized by our peers at TXGenWeb. It was a great honor to be given the August County of the Month 2008 award.
June 2008—After TXGenWeb
selected Delta County as a county of honorable mention, we decided
to do some housecleaning and redesigned the front page of the website.
So far, this month has been devoted to a detailed sitemap. With
over 200 + pages, it is a sizeable task. It will be worth it
because Google will see more of us.
The first page and cemetery
page now have a goldmine link to the Family
Search Texas Death Index by The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day
Saints. A researcher can download or print the image of the Texas
Death Certificate for free!
Petitions have been added to the History section. The file sizes are large and will take time to download if you are using dial-up service.
The goal is to return to indexing the obituaries Surnames L-Z and
finish by the end of the month of June. And focus again
on the Veteran's Book again.

At the Texas Press Association find historical information about The
Cooper Review. Congratulations to the Butlers for purchasing
and preserving the legacy of the Review and foremost, their appointment
of publisher & editor, Roger Palmer. He is winning awards for his efforts.
One has not lived unless they have had a old-fashioned ice-cream shake
made by Mabel Wheat at Miller's Pharmacy. The Dallas News filmed a video
clip of Miller's historic soda fountain. A must see, before
it is archived.
The Obituary
Section (800+) is coming along nicely. If you
discover an ancestor's obituary, please contact one of the
webmaster's below. Remember, the best comprehensive resource
for obituaries remains the Delta County Library in Cooper,
Texas.
April 2008—Progress report — The
Veterans Book is now a work-in-progress. Descendants
are participating in the remembrance of their World War II
ancestors. Also, check to see if your World War I soldier's
honorable discharge has been added. (35 records and progressing).
The current Index to the Obituaries is being revised. And obituaries
that are on file with the County Coordinators will be available upon
request to a family member. Remember, the best resource for obituaries
remains the Delta County Library in Cooper, Texas.

directors have been added to the website. The original license
book is located at the Delta County Courthouse, Clerk's Office.
Also, Jay Odom has provided a link to his website, Cheap
Texas Death Certificates, 1903-1976 (fees range $5-$7 per copy depending
on quantity ordered)
