I am seeking information on Martin J. Flatla (b. 13 Apr 1842, d. 5 Feb 1924) and his sister, Karen Teodorsdatter (b. 3 Aug 1861, d. 1945). Martin married Christine Langbraaten in Norway, emigrated in 1868, and settled in Pleasant Township in 1872. Karen may have migrated with her [half-]brother in 1868; at the time of the 1865 census, she was living as a fosterchild on a farm in Jevnaker parish, Oppland, Norway, while her brother lived with his wife's family in Gran Parish, Oppland, Norway. Karen married Erick Anderson Blilie (b. 22 Aug 1856, d. 1943) and they lived first in Pleasant Township, then in Kindred. Martin and Christine had nine children, one of whom is not known: John, Gilbert, Ida (Moen), Mina (Strum), Jetta, Julia (Anderson), Marie, and Clara. Karen and Erick had thirteen children: Adolph, Gustie (Jacobson), Clara (Moen), Marie (Barstad), Minnie (Dahlen), Ruth (Dokken), Ella (Swenson), George, Melford, Walter, Eugene, Fern (Hertsgard), and Hazel (Cork). Thank you for your help. We only recently learned (via Martin Flatla's obituary) and he had a sister, and are anxious to make contact with Karen's descendents.

Submitter:

Date: 28 Aug 2001

Seeking information on James Viquesney who lived in Fargo in 1916 when he attended his brothers funeral in Terre Haute, Indiana. He was born in Virginia in 1860. the family migrated to Indiana around 1863 settling in Parke County. They were stonemasons coming from France to work on the national capital building. When the mother died in 1866 the father remarried. When this marriage broke up in the early 1970's the father and one son ended up in Spencer, Owen, Indiana. James was not with them. I've been told to always remember the Brouelette and Viquesney names are connected. James took the Brouelette name. He also was associated with stonemasonry. I feel he may have been apprenticed. I believe he was connected to the cemetery business. Any information will be greatly appreciated.
